Vilcabamba – chilling out in the Valley of Longevity

After our not so successful detour on taking a train ride through the Andes another bus equipped with some nice accessories brought us to our next destination. By the way, moving household here in Ecuador is also done a little different than in Europe. Can’t imagine? Well, when have you last time moved by bus? *smiley winking*

Nearly a month already passed since we started our round-the-world tour, with so many new impressions and positive daily challenges. We think this is a good time to refill energy levels and “invest” into our future. So what might be better than to relax a few days in the Valley of Longevity?

A no-brainer for us, so we arrived in Vilcabamba, had our first beer and made new friends.

And yes, we booked a wellness temple! The first day was – of course – at the pool!

In the evening, I tried something new: A Reki massage!? Well, it was somehow special, I just say “aura cleansing” without touching *smiley ouch*

No need to do it again. I recommended Thorsten a proper massage, so he took the classic version and came back completely oily but very relaxed *smiley angel*

On day two, I found a new friend: Caramello. He is a horse and we explored the nearby hills for two hours. Unfortunately, we had a little language barrier. It took some time until I learned how to convince him to move a bit faster. European horse experience does not help at all to influence the speed of Ecuadorian horses.

But hey it’s the valley of longevity, so we have a bit more time and finally lazy Caramello went all the way – even crossed a river which was much deeper than I thought (wet feet!) and I was happy too *smiley cool*

Well, the rest of our stay in Vilcabamba was more or less relaxing in the hammock, relaxing on the terrace, reading…and blogging taking advantage of the WiFi with a view.

Time flies. It’s already a month now since we went on a plane in Frankfurt. And we adapted a bit to the culture here in Ecuador, taking it easy and not rush through. Thus spending more time than forseen exploring Ecuador.

Taking in some last sunset here, we travel on to Peru and are very much looking forward to get to see more from the ancient Incas.
